Outdoor Swimming

Last summer, Maia and I swam a lot in the waters around a beautiful south Devon coast.

We continued swimming as the autumn came and began to swim more in the river Dart. There is a beautiful spot to get in, not far from where we live in Totnes.

We found that we were not alone. There were others throughout the day, particularly between 7am and 9 am. We got to know these lovely wild swimmers and continued even when, one winter day, snow lay on the footpath. We would also be joined by mallard ducks, ducklings, moor hens, egrets and swans.

Our local beach is Elberry Cove so when Covid restrictions allowed, we would head there and say hello to the turquoise sea and the seal who would sometimes view these ungainly swimmers.

It's such a blessing to swim each morning in nature. While  sometimes being torn between getting in or catching the scene with pen, ink and watercolour.
