Hip replacement?

22/04/2022

A woman friend went to the GP because of an ongoing painful hip.The GP discovered a small bone spur and said that sooner or later she would need a hip replacement.

One day when I was out walking with her, I noticed that she tended to march rather than simply walk. I could see that she was holding her hip area quite tightly.

After a while I managed to get her to walk without this holding. She said that walking did then feel more comfortable.

She was however, a bit concerned about how she now appeared as she walked. I told her that it looked completely natural.

Talking further she told me that when she was at university a close woman friend told her that she thought she swung her bottom as she walked. As a result she tightened up her buttocks and that whole area and always walked with this holding. It then became to feel normal.

Learning to walk without this holding, she has discovered there is no longer any discomfort in the hip.

Now, years later, there is absolutely no need for any hip replacement as the symptoms no longer appear.

Of course, sometimes surgery is the only solution to a problem, but first we should always look to see if there’s any constructive changes that we can make to our life style.
